May 2022: Palangka Raya experiences inflation of 0.93 percent and Sampit experiences inflation of 0.94 percent

Abstract

In May 2022, based on two reference cities, Palangka Raya and Sampit, inflation in Kalimantan Tengah was 0.93 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 112.40. Of the 90 CPI cities, 87 cities experienced inflation, while three cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 2.24 percent with a CPI at 116.00 and the lowest in Tangerang and Gunungsitoli at 0.05 percent with a CPI in Tangerang at 109.73 and Gunungsitoli at 110.63. The highest deflation was recorded in Kotamobagu at 0.21 percent with a CPI of 111.25, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Merauke at 0.02 percent with a CPI of 109.92.
  • The combined inflation for the cities of Palangka Raya and Sampit in May 2022 was due to an increase in the index of the food, beverage and tobacco group (1.90 percent), the recreation, sports and culture group (1.87 percent), and the personal care and other services group (0 ,66 percent).
  • Calendar year inflation (May 2022 to December 2021) for the combined cities of Palangka Raya and Sampit was recorded at 3.34 percent and year-on-year inflation (May 2022 to May 2021) was 5.74 percent.
  • Commodities contributing to inflation in May 2022 include tilapia, catfish, cork fish, cell phones, cooking oil, broiler eggs, cement, pork, cinema, and cayenne pepper.
  • Commodities that contributed to deflation in May 2022 include oranges, grapes, garlic, prepared cooking spices, school bags, apples, tea, papaya, rimbang/tekokak, and cleaners/fresheners.
